As we all have seen in recent weeks, this is a very difficult time for our community and nation in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Fair Oaks Recreation & Park District values your health and well-being and we are closely following recommendations from the CDC and local/state health officials to determine the right course of action for our events moving forward.

Given the guidelines currently in place, the Mississippi Bar Trail Run will still take place on June 6th as scheduled. However, owing to the constantly-evolving nature of the circumstances, there is the possibility that this status may change. (Please refer to this website for updates.) In response to all of this, we are excited to tell you about a new option available to the community that will allow for even broader participation!

In the spirit of what this trail run is all about – being healthy, having fun, and taking on a challenge for an important cause – we want to offer you the option to participate in this event on YOUR own time in YOUR own way by signing up to be a virtual runner! You can run, skip, jog, or walk our two distances (5K/10K) in whichever way you are most comfortable with. Team options still apply, but please be sure to abide by current social distancing requirements if running together. It’s your race, on your terms! Here is what you need to do:

Go to our Race Roster website and select either the Virtual Runner 5K or Virtual Runner 10K option to register.

DECIDE yoUR TIME & location

Do your 5K/10K literally anywhere and anytime! To accommodate people as much as possible, we will be opening up the virtual run from April 1st to June 7th. While we would love for you to choose one of our two planned routes or map out your own trail in the area of Mississippi Bar, we understand that you may not have the ability to make it out there. No problem at all! Whether you’re on the trail, the treadmill, the sidewalk, or at the park – go the distance and accomplish the goal!

Submitting proof of participation is easy through your Race Roster profile! Instructions can be found at this link. The link to view the public results page is here.

  • Upon submission, you will have the option to upload a screenshot or photo of your run using your preferred tracking app (Strava, Runkeeper, Nike Plus, Garmin, etc.) on your phone or smartwatch.

Due to the evolving circumstances around the event and the opening up of this virtual run starting in April, we cannot guarantee our racer kits (race bibs, t-shirt, finisher’s medal) any earlier than June 6th. We appreciate your understanding at this time and will let you know more details in the future about when and how these items will be available to you.

To get the word out to everyone about our shared commitment to the race, we invite you to post on Facebook event page & Instagram (@forpd) any videos or photos from your run using the hashtags #mississippibartrailrun #fairoakstrailrun, or live stream on any app and @ us in the comments!

Finally, whether you participate in the run or not, we kindly encourage you to continue to help us in our fundraising efforts towards the Rachel Anne Gray Memorial Scholarship. Donations to our high school scholarship fund in memory of Rachel still VERY MUCH matter in this time. Thank you for your efforts!

We are extremely committed to making the Mississippi Bar Trail Run an exciting annual event for the active running community in Fair Oaks and surrounding areas. You can be a catalyst for making this possible! We hope you share your running experience with those around you and help us get the word out about our virtual run option. Now more than ever is the perfect time to see people in the community out running and jogging, wherever they may be, in a collective effort to stay healthy and stay connected.

We are committed to ensuring that our resilient community members have resources to maintain healthy lives, grow meaningful relationships, and continue to have extraordinary experiences.
